Velvet Goldmine (Todd Haynes, 1998)

Funny how this film also has a very colorful and flamboyant milieu full of debauchery and decadence, as well as an aimless character who sees a mysterious gunman he can’t quite prove exists.

If you’re on campus, you can access a couple of interesting articles on Velvet Goldmine using JSTOR: film critic Felicia Feaster’s review of the film for Film Quarterly and performance artist Joanna Frueh’s more impressionistic piece called “Tarts, Stars, Jewels, and Fairies.”

Elsewhere on the Web, here’s a resource (first page and second page) from an “online companion” to David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust. The “User’s Guide to Velvet Goldmine” prepared by poet Joshua Clover is especially useful here.
